If you've bought canned hearts of palm, wanting to try them but unsure what to do with them, this simple recipe will introduce you to this exotic fruit, leaving you with nothing but pleasant memories. Combine tender hearts of palm with onions, chili peppers, and watercress, which has a zesty mustard flavor. For a tropical twist, add slices of ripe, aromatic mango and drizzle with a dressing made from olive oil and citrus juice.

Recipe:
Thinly slice half a small red onion into half rings and soak in ice water for 10 minutes. In a large bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup olive oil, the juice of 1 lime, and half an orange.
Add 1 16-ounce (425g) can of hearts of palm (drain and thinly slice), 1 thinly sliced mango, and 1 sliced jalapeño. Drain the onion and add it to the salad along with a bunch of trimmed watercress. Season with salt and toss to combine.
