Mexican-style meat stewed in a tomato sauce with beans and chili pepper, which gives the dish its name. For this dish, use two types of meat. Beef brisket and pork shoulder are excellent options, as these cuts are tougher and ideal for long simmering in a slow cooker. Combine all the vegetables, beans, spices, and meat in a slow cooker or multi-cooker with a slow cooker function and simmer for 8 hours. This is a convenient time for those who leave for work in the morning and want to return to a fresh, hot dinner. The meat becomes very tender in the cooked chili, and the dish itself is quite spicy and tangy. Add a dollop of sour cream to the bowl if you need to tone down the flavor.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 700 g boneless pork shoulder, cut into 2.5 cm cubes.
  • 700 g beef brisket, cut into 2.5 cm cubes.
  • 2 x 425g cans black beans (reserve liquid)
  • 1 can (410g) diced tomatoes
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped + extra for serving
  • 1-2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, finely chopped + 1 tbsp sauce
  • 2 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tbsp. l. ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Grated cheddar and/or sour cream for serving (optional)

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Rub the pork and beef with 1 teaspoon each of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper. In a 6-quart slow cooker, combine the black beans and their liquid, tomatoes, bell peppers, red onion, chipotle peppers and adobo sauce, chili powder, cumin, oregano, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Add the pork and brisket and stir. Cover and cook on high for 8 hours. Season with salt. Serve with cheese, sour cream, and red onion.
