How to defrost meat: step-by-step instructions
Votes: 6
Follow these simple steps to properly defrost meat.

Step 1: Defrost overnight
It's best to plan defrosting in advance. Leave the meat in a bowl in the refrigerator to thaw overnight. It will be ready to cook the next day.
Step 2: Security
Never store meat at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Thawed meat should not be refrozen unless it is used in broth, soup, or other liquid dishes.
Step 3: Cooking Frozen Meat Same Day
If you have frozen meat and plan to cook it today, there's a faster way to defrost it: the "cold water method." Store sliced and ground meat in a tightly sealed bag with a minimum of air. Proper storage prevents bacteria growth and liquid leakage.
Step 4: Thaw in cold water
Place the meat, still in its bag, in a large bowl and fill it with cold water. Change the water every 30 minutes while the meat continues to thaw. A 450g bag of meat can thaw in 1 hour or less. Defrosting 1350-1800g of meat this way will take over 2 hours.
Step 5: Ready to cook
Remember, don't refreeze meat. If you follow our advice, dinner will be ready in no time.Categories:
