Clam dip is a traditional New England condiment, popular all along the Atlantic coast of the United States. Every New Englander familiar with this dip probably has their own opinion on how to make it: with cream cheese or sour cream (or both), and what toppings to add. This classic and simple version uses cream cheese, canned clams, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Feel free to serve it with your favorite side dishes, whether potato chips, sliced ​​vegetables, or crackers.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 2 x 170g jars of crushed clams, drained
  • 220 g of cream cheese at room temperature
  • 2 tsp hot sauce, preferably Tabasco, plus more if desired and for serving
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce + more if desired
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced ​​(white parts separated from green parts)
  • Potato chips for serving

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. In a medium bowl, combine the clams, cream cheese, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and white part of the onion. Taste and add more hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce if desired.
  2. Place the dip in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to let it set.

  3. Bring the dip to room temperature before serving. Sprinkle with green onions, drizzle with hot sauce, and serve with chips (or any other appetizers).
