- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 cardamom pods
- 8 carnation buds
- 2 cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish
- 5cm piece of fresh ginger, thinly sliced, optional
- 6 bags of black tea
- 1 cup whole or 2% milk
- 1 cup unsweetened regular or skim coconut milk
- 2 tbsp - 1/4 cup brown sugar

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Lightly crush the peppercorns, cardamom, cloves, and cinnamon and place in a medium saucepan. Add ginger, if using. Add 6 cups of cold water and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add the tea bags. Steep the tea for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and let steep for another 10 minutes.
- Combine milk and sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Strain the chai mixture into the milk mixture and heat for 1 minute. Whisk until foamy. Pour the spiced chai latte into 4 mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks.
