Coconut milk latte with turmeric

This spiced, caffeine-free coconut drink could be the next big thing in lattes.


Ingredients:


Turmeric paste
  • 1/4 cup turmeric powder
  • 3 tbsp. l. coconut oil

Latte
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 piece of ginger (2.5 cm), peeled and cut into thin slices
  • Honey to taste (optional)
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • For turmeric paste. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the turmeric powder and 1 cup water. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until the mixture thickens into a dry paste. Remove from heat, stir in the coconut oil and 1/4 teaspoon of ground pepper. Set aside.
  • Step 2
  • For latte. In a medium saucepan, combine the coconut milk, cinnamon stick, ginger, honey (if using), and 1 tablespoon of turmeric paste. (Let any remaining paste cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.) Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat and let it cook for about 5 minutes to infuse the ingredients. Remove from heat and strain, then serve immediately.
