Coquito is a Puerto Rican cocktail traditionally enjoyed at Christmas. Its name translates from Spanish as "little coconut," but once you try it, you'll realize it's anything but small: its captivating, incomparable flavor and aroma literally envelop you. The cocktail contains coconut cream, two types of condensed milk (sweetened and unsweetened), coconut milk, and white rum. The sweet coconut flavor is perfectly complemented by vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. A truly festive taste that lifts the spirits. Coquito is served very chilled with an extra pinch of nutmeg and a cinnamon stick.


Ingredients:

  • 1 can (425 g) coconut cream (for drinks)
  • 1 can (400 g) of condensed milk with sugar
  • 1 can (360 g) of unsweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk (drink)
  • 0.5 cups white rum
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg + extra for serving
  • Cinnamon sticks, for serving
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Combine coconut cream, both types of condensed milk, coconut milk, rum, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a blender and blend until smooth, about 2 minutes. Pour into a pitcher, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until completely chilled, about 1 hour.
  • Step 2
  • Stir the coquito thoroughly, as it will separate slightly in the refrigerator. Pour into glasses or mugs, sprinkle with nutmeg, and serve with a cinnamon stick.
