Apples filled with oatmeal, flour, butter, brown sugar, and spices are like an apple pie baked inside an apple. Firm, sweet apples, such as Braeburn or Fuji, work best for this recipe. After baking, they develop a lovely golden hue and a delightful, spicy aroma of cinnamon and ginger, which complements the subtle apple flavors. Fill the apples with as much filling as possible, creating a heaping layer and a slightly bulging crust, creating a delicious crispy crust after baking. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- In a bowl, combine all dry ingredients and diced butter. Rub the mixture quickly with your fingers until it resembles wet sand with small pieces. Refrigerate while you work on the apples.
- Trim a small layer from the bottom of each apple to create a smooth bottom surface and allow the apples to stand upright. Using a small knife, cut a cylindrical cone from the top of the apple, about 2.5 cm from the core, similar to removing the top of a Halloween pumpkin. Remove the top and discard. Using a watermelon scoop or teaspoon, remove the remaining core and seeds, being careful not to damage the base of the apple.
- Place the apples on a baking sheet or in a pie dish and spoon 1 teaspoon of honey into each apple. Then, using a spoon, spoon the mixture into each apple, pressing it lightly until it's completely filled.
- Bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) on the top or middle rack for 40 minutes, or until the filling is golden brown and a knife inserts easily into the apple. Let the apples rest for 10 minutes, then serve.
