Crumble is one of the easiest fruit desserts to make, and for an elegant presentation, prepare and serve it in individual ramekins. The juicy apple filling, combined with a crunchy streusel made from oats, brown sugar, and walnuts, is sure to impress. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 6 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter, cut into pieces, plus extra for greasing the ramekins
  • 2/3 cup oatmeal
  • 1/3 cup premium flour
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup toasted walnut pieces
  • A pinch of fine salt
  • 4 baking apples, such as Braeburn and/or Golden Delicious, peeled and diced
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving
  • Special equipment: 6 ramekins, 180 ml each.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Position a rack in the center of the oven and another rack in the top third of the oven (about 6 inches from the heating element) and preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease 6 ramekins.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, walnuts, and salt. Using your fingertips, work the butter into the oat mixture until it forms pea-sized pieces. Divide the apples evenly among the ramekins and top with the oat mixture.

  3. Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake on the middle rack of the oven until the fruit is bubbling around the edges and the tops are golden brown, 30–35 minutes. Remove from the oven.
  4. Turn the oven to broil, place the baking sheet with the ramekins on the top rack, and bake until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Let cool for about 15 minutes before serving. Serve the crumbles warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
  5. Note

When measuring flour, spoon it into a dry measuring cup and remove any excess. Scooping directly from the bag will compact the flour, resulting in dry baked goods.
