The secret to these crispy Belgian waffles is equal parts butter and vegetable shortening, which gives them their delicious crunch. These waffles are the perfect way to start your day and will lift your spirits with their delicious flavor. Serve them with a cup of morning tea or coffee, topped with any sweet sauces or jams. You can also fry them ahead of time and freeze them. Then, on a busy weekday morning, quickly reheat them in the toaster and enjoy.

Recipes with similar ingredients: premium flour, sugar, milk, butter, eggs, maple syrup, powdered sugar
Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Preheat the waffle iron to medium heat. Preheat the oven to 90°C (195°F) (to keep the finished waffles warm). In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, butter, margarine, and eggs. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and gently mix until smooth (it's okay if there are a few lumps in the batter).
- Lightly grease the top and bottom of a waffle iron with butter. Fill the iron about three-quarters full with batter (some waffle irons have markings). Close the lid and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crispy, 6-7 minutes. Place the finished waffles on a plate, cover with foil, and keep in the oven while you cook the rest.
Serve waffles with maple syrup, butter, powdered sugar or jam.Note
Waffles can be frozen in a zip-lock bag for up to 1 month. Before serving, reheat in a toaster oven or a regular oven at 150°C until crispy.
