Time: 1 hour 35 minutes

Quantity: 4 sandwiches

An Indian take on the popular American sandwich, the Sloppy Joe, features a meat sauce sandwiched between two buns, giving it a sloppy appearance. It's made with ground turkey. Simmer it in a sauce with Indian garam masala, fiery chili peppers, raisins, vegetables, and a touch of honey, and the sauce takes on all the flavors of an Eastern dish. Serve it anytime you want to relax in a casual family setting. All you have to do is enjoy this fantastic combination of savory, spicy, and sweet notes.

Add the ginger, garlic, and chili pepper and cook until the ginger and garlic are lightly browned, about 1 minute. garam masala Add the paprika and cook for 30 seconds. Add the tomato sauce and 1 cup of water, stir, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, prepare the sandwiches.Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the raisins and pistachios and cook, stirring occasionally, until the raisins have plumped up and the pistachios are lightly toasted, about 1 minute. Remove from the skillet.

  3. Return the pan to medium heat and add the remaining 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the chili pepper and fry for another 2 minutes, seasoning with salt to taste. Add the ground beef, breaking up any large pieces, and fry until darkened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the prepared sauce to the meat mixture. Stir and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer until the sauce thickens slightly, about 10 minutes.
  5. Remove all the chili peppers (unless you're going to eat them, like my dad!) and stir in the honey, cream, raisins, and pistachios. Taste. Add cilantro just before serving.
  6. Toast the buns and fill them with meat sauce. Eat with your hands!
