This thick, meaty gravy for Sloppy Joe sandwiches is made in a slow cooker, meaning you can throw all the ingredients in the pot and forget about them for a few hours. It's perfect for those busy days when you don't have time to stand at the stove. Simply spoon the prepared gravy onto the buns, and the whole family will thank you.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 700 g ground beef (20% fat)
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 inner stalk celery (with leaves), finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • Half an onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can (400 g) of tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cups ketchup
  • 1 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tbsp dry mustard
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 16 slider buns or mini potato buns, halved
  • Special equipment: slow cooker

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. In a 4-6 quart slow cooker, combine ground beef, garlic, celery, pepper, onion, tomato sauce, ketchup, chili powder, dry mustard, onion powder, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
  2. Mix everything together with a wooden spoon, making sure the ground beef is evenly distributed. Cook on high for 4 hours.

  3. Spread the filling on the buns and make sandwiches.
