A simple yet incredibly delicious appetizer, pan con tomate (tomato bread) is a common sight on the menus of Catalan tapas bars. It's easy to prepare and is typically served with alcoholic drinks along with other toppings, like this recipe with thin slices of Serrano ham. To prepare, spread toasted baguette with spiced tomato purée and cut into bite-sized pieces. You can prepare the tomato topping in advance, but assemble the appetizer just before serving to prevent the crispy bread from becoming soggy.
