Seasoned pineapple can be served as a standalone appetizer with drinks, not just as part of a fruit bowl. Cut it into manageable pieces and roll it in a spice mixture. There are many flavor variations. For example, try a tangy-sweet pineapple with lime and chili pepper, or a sweet-spicy one with cinnamon and allspice. The recipe below offers some suggestions, but feel free to experiment to suit your tastes.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • Pineapple
  • Zest of 3 limes
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ancho pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Recipes with similar ingredients: Pineapple, lime zest, ancho pepper

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Cut the pineapple into small pieces. Microwave the grated zest of 3 limes on a paper towel until completely dry, about 1 minute. Combine the zest, 2 teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon each of ground ancho and cayenne pepper. Stir into the pineapple.
  2. Experiment with other spices, try a mixture of cinnamon, sugar and allspice, or a mixture of ground sesame seeds, sugar, salt and ground ginger.

  3. How to Peel and Cut a Pineapple

Using a sharp chef's knife, cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple. Stand the fruit upright and peel off the peel, following the curve of the pineapple. Use a small knife to remove any remaining hard brown spots, or "eyes." Stand the peeled pineapple upright, then cut the flesh from the core into four wide strips. Slice these into pieces.
