2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.

1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.
Ingredients for the recipe:
- 4 tbsp (60 g) butter, plus extra for greasing the pan
- 1/2 yellow onion, diced
- 1/3 cup wheat flour
- 1.5 cups drinking cream (10% fat)
- 1.5 cups of milk
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 900 g thoroughly washed potatoes
- 3 cups diced ham
- 2 tbsp. grated cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
We recommend
Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Preheat oven to 190C.
- Place the butter and onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until the onion begins to soften, 3-4 minutes. Sprinkle the onion with flour and stir. Continue cooking the onion and flour mixture until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Pour in the cream and milk and stir until the mixture thickens, about 3-4 minutes. Season with pepper, stir the sauce, reduce the heat, and keep warm.
- Using a vegetable peeler or a very sharp knife, slice the potatoes into as thin slices as possible. Generously grease a 2-quart baking dish with butter and layer half the sliced potatoes and half the sliced ham. Sprinkle with half the cheese and drizzle with the sauce from the pan. Repeat with the remaining ingredients, finishing with a layer of cheese and sauce. Top with pepper.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes, then remove the foil and bake until the cheese is golden brown and the sauce is bubbling, another 20-30 minutes. Sprinkle with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve.
