Sweet potato is a plant native to South America. Its flavor and nutritional qualities resemble those of sweet pumpkin. However, unlike mashed potatoes, which are served as a side dish, mashed sweet potato is quite self-sufficient and can be enjoyed as a standalone dish.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 1.5 kg sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 55 g butter
  • 1 banana, sliced ​​into rounds
  • Juice and zest of 1 orange
  • 1 tbsp. chicken broth
  • 0.5 cup cane sugar
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Boil the sweet potato, drain and set aside.
  2. Return the pan to medium heat. Add the oil and banana. Simmer the bananas for 5 minutes, then add the juice of 1 orange, setting the zest aside. Simmer the juice for 1 minute.

  3. Then return the sweet potatoes to the pan, add the broth and sugar. Mash everything thoroughly. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and add the nutmeg and zest. Mash the puree again and serve.
