Sweet potatoes, also known as yams, are also great for mashing, and this recipe uses both regular potatoes and sweet potatoes for mashed potatoes. It's delicious! A perfect side dish for a special occasion when you need something more than just mashed potatoes.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 2 kg of sweet potatoes
  • 2 kg of potatoes
  • 0.5 cups olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). Wrap each sweet potato in foil and bake for 1.5 hours or until tender. Leave to cool in the foil wraps.
  2. Meanwhile, peel the white potatoes and boil them in salted water until tender; then drain and mash.

  3. Carefully open the sweet potato wrappers over the mashed potatoes to collect all the juices. Holding the sweet potato over the mashed potatoes, use your fingers to peel off the skin and spoon the flesh into the mashed potatoes.
  4. Add the butter and nutmeg and mash thoroughly with a wooden spoon, adding salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
