How to Make Mashed Potatoes with Cabbage

A recipe for a vegetable side dish made with mashed potatoes, fried cabbage, butter, and cream. The cabbage is first fried, then simmered in the potato cooking liquid, and mashed until smooth.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 450 g potatoes, peeled and cut in half
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 4 green onions, cut into rings
  • Cream 10% fat
  • 2 tbsp (30 g) butter, plus more for frying
  • A pinch of nutmeg

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender. Reserve 1/4 cup of the cooking liquid for stewing, and drain the rest.
  2. Meanwhile, fry the cabbage in butter for 2 minutes. Add the broth and simmer, covered, for 3 minutes.

    Add potatoes, green onions, butter, cream, and nutmeg. Puree the vegetables until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
