Mashed potatoes with cheddar - a detailed recipe.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 900 g unpeeled yellow-skinned potatoes
  • 220 gr. spicy cheese Cheddar
  • 220 g of bacon
  • 1 cup of hot milk
  • 60 g - 120 g butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped herbs (parsley, green onions)

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Place the potatoes in a saucepan of cold water, add salt, and bring to a boil. Simmer for 45 minutes. Drain and peel.
  2. Render the bacon fat in a skillet over medium heat. Cut the bacon into slices and season with salt. Reserve the rendered fat in 2-4 tablespoons of water. Replace half of the butter with the rendered bacon fat; use all the butter, if desired.

  3. In a bowl, mash the potatoes until smooth. Stir in the cheddar and herbs, and season with salt and pepper.
  4. In a separate bowl, heat the milk and butter. Add to the mashed potatoes and stir. Divide the mashed potatoes among the servings and sprinkle with bacon.
