Classic mashed potatoes with the creamy notes of butter and the savory flavor of green onions—this side dish is perfect for any occasion. Soft and velvety, it's perfect for both festive meals and everyday use. For the smoothest, lump-free mash, run it through a masher.

Ingredients:

  • 1.3 kg Yukon potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 220 g unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 3/4 - 1 cup warm whole milk
  • Chopped fresh chives, for serving
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Place the potatoes in a large saucepan, cover with cold water to a depth of 2 cm, and season generously with salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the potatoes are tender, 12-15 minutes. Drain thoroughly.
  • Step 2
  • Press the potatoes through a press or vegetable grinder back into the pan. Alternatively, mash them with a potato masher.
  • Step 3
  • Add all but 2 tablespoons of the butter and stir until melted. Gradually whisk in 3/4 cup of milk until fully incorporated. If the mashed potatoes still seem thick, gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup of milk. Season with salt to taste.
  • Step 4
  • Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving platter. Top with the remaining 2 tablespoons butter and sprinkle with chives.
