White Glazed Apples for Halloween
Votes: 2

A favorite childhood treat, glazed apples on sticks will be a Halloween party highlight if decorated appropriately. Apples coated in white lauric glaze are the base. They can easily be used to create a mummy, a cat, a spider web, a skeleton, a ghost, or werewolf claw marks. You'll need glaze discs (white and black), red and black liquid food coloring in tubes, small eye candies, and marshmallows. The whole process is simple, and you can involve the kids for a fun kitchen experience.
Apples in white lauric glaze: Insert sturdy lollipop sticks into the tops of six apples. In the microwave, melt 3 cups of white frosting in 30-second intervals, stirring until completely melted. Dip each apple in the white frosting and let any excess drip back into the bowl. Place the apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet; let them set before decorating, unless otherwise noted.
Exit: 6 apples in white glaze
Mummy: Attach two candy eyes to an apple covered with white frosting, using more frosting as glue. Melt two marshmallows in the microwave until puffed, 10-15 seconds. Stir until smooth, then let cool slightly. Scoop a marshmallow with a spoon – a string will form – and wrap it around the apple.
Web: Melt the black frosting in the microwave; pour into a small, resealable plastic bag. Snip off the corner. While the white frosting on the apples is still wet, pipe the black frosting in a spiral pattern onto one side of the apple. Use a wooden skewer and carefully draw lines from the center outward to create a web. Let it set.
Cat: Cut the marshmallows in half diagonally, then trim to create two triangles. Press the cut edges onto black decorative sugar. Attach the ears to the apple covered with white icing, using more white icing as glue. Then attach two green candies to make the eyes. Pipe stripes of black liquid food coloring onto the eyes for the pupils.
Skeleton: Roll mini marshmallows between your thumb and index finger to form bones. Attach the "bones" to a white-glazed apple to form a hand using melted icing.
Werewolf: Run a wooden skewer through the white icing on the apple in 3 places to create claw marks. Fill the marks with red liquid food coloring.
Ghost: Make a puddle of melted white icing on the parchment paper; place the apple, covered in white icing, on the puddle while it's still wet. Let it harden, then use black liquid food coloring to draw the ghost's eyes and mouth.
