How to Make Dark Hot Chocolate for Halloween

Complexity: easily

Make your favorite hot chocolate extra special this Halloween: dip the rims of your mugs in melted chocolate, then press them into the black and orange sprinkles and let them set. The chocolate drink itself also gets a special, dark, and rich flavor thanks to the addition of alkalized cocoa powder.

Ingredients:

  • Black and orange decorative sprinkles
  • 60g dark chocolate (54%), chopped + extra for garnishing the mug
  • 4 cups of milk
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup dark cocoa powder
  • A pinch of salt
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.

1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Place the sprinkles on a shallow plate. In another shallow plate, melt the chocolate for the decoration in the microwave. Dip the rims of the inverted mugs into the melted chocolate, then press them onto the sprinkles to adhere. Let them set.
  • Step 2
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt and heat over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves, the drink is smooth, and steaming, 8–10 minutes.
  • Step 3
  • Add the chocolate and stir until completely melted. Pour the hot chocolate into prepared mugs.
