Ingredients:


Basic hot chocolate
  • 3 cups of cold milk
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Coarse salt
  • Hot chocolate additions:

Tropical
  • 1 tbsp rum
  • Whipped cream, for serving
  • Toasted coconut, for garnish

Smoked
  • 1 tbsp. whiskey
  • Toasted marshmallow, for decoration
  • Smoked salt, for garnish

Mint
  • 1 tbsp. mint schnapps
  • Peppermint candy, for decoration
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Prepare the base: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Cook over medium-high heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil, about 2 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium and continue cooking, whisking, until the chocolate thickens, about 30 seconds.

  • Mix hot chocolate with desired toppings and serve immediately.
