Homemade Limoncello Liqueur


How to Make Limoncello Liqueur at Home

This lemon liqueur is traditionally drunk in Italy after meals, but it can also be used in many drinks. It's easy to make and makes a great gift.


Ingredients:

  • 10 lemons
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) of vodka
  • 3.5 cups of water
  • 2.5 cups of sugar
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Using a vegetable peeler, peel the lemon zest in long strips (set the lemons aside for another use). Place the lemon zest in a 2-liter pitcher. Pour vodka over the zest and cover with plastic wrap. Let the lemon zest infuse in the vodka for 4 days at room temperature.
  • Step 2
  • In a large saucepan, combine the water and sugar and heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes. Cool completely. Pour the sugar syrup into the vodka mixture. Cover and let sit at room temperature overnight. Strain the limoncello through a sieve. Discard the zest. Pour the limoncello into bottles. Seal the bottles and refrigerate for at least 4 hours; the liqueur will keep for up to 1 month.
