Molasses, ground ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg give this hot chocolate a warming gingerbread flavor. Cocoa and milk balance the spices, while milk chocolate adds a creamy, rich texture. Garnish the hot chocolate with a dollop of whipped cream and mini marshmallows and indulge in this enchanting drink on a crisp winter's day.


Ingredients:

  • 6 cups of milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 3 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp. grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 200 g milk chocolate, chopped
  • Whipped cream for serving
  • Mini marshmallows for filing
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, cocoa powder, sugar, molasses, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar, cocoa, and spices dissolve and the milk begins to steam, about 5 minutes. Do not let the mixture boil. Gradually add the chopped chocolate and stir until smooth. Pour the hot chocolate into 6-8 mugs and garnish with whipped cream and mini marshmallows.
