Chefs deep-fried a wide variety of foods. Find out which snacks tasted best fried.

How to deep fry:

Heat 3 inches (7.5 cm) of vegetable or peanut oil in a large, deep saucepan until a deep-fry thermometer registers 350°F (190°C) (or use a deep fryer). Prepare the batter (see recipes below). Working in batches, dip the ingredients into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, and carefully lower them into the hot oil. Fry, turning as needed, until crisp and golden brown.
Brie cheese

Cut the brie into wedges. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in 2 tablespoons chopped herbs. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Sandwich cookies

Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Snickers

Freeze Snickers bars. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 3/4 cup cold sparkling water. Add 2 egg yolks. Mix in 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar. Fry for 2-3 minutes.
Mini muffins

Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in a little walnut oil. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich

Cut the sandwich into 4 pieces. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 1/4 cups cold sparkling water. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar. Bake for 3-4 minutes.
Bacon

Fry the bacon and pat dry. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in a pinch of black or cayenne pepper. Fry for about 1 minute.
Poached eggs

Bring poached eggs to room temperature. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in 2 tablespoons chopped herbs or a pinch of curry powder. Fry for 1-2 minutes.
Mac and cheese

Spread the mac and cheese in a baking dish; cool and cut into squares. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in a pinch of cayenne pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Assorted nuts

Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in a pinch of cayenne pepper or curry powder. Cook for about 1 minute.
Bananas

Slice the bananas. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 1/4 cups cold sparkling water. Mix in a little walnut oil. Fry for about 1 minute.
Mashed potatoes

Cool the mashed potatoes and form into balls. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in 2 tablespoons chopped herbs. Fry for 2-3 minutes.
Ginger

Peel and slice the ginger. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Mix in 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar. Fry for about 1 minute.
Olive

Remove the seeds if necessary. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in 2 tablespoons chopped herbs. Fry for about 1 minute.
Strawberry

Remove the stems from the strawberries. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Mix in 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar. Fry for about 1 minute.
Cheesecake

Cut the cold cheesecake into wedges. Whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup cold sparkling water. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar. Bake for 4-5 minutes.
Parboiled rice

Do not use batter. Fry for about 30 seconds.
