Strawberry Orange Daiquiri

Complexity: easily
Servings: 4
One of the most famous and beloved cocktails, the Daiquiri, was invented in Cuba and the original recipe consists of white rum, lime juice, and simple syrup. The cocktail was named after the Cuban beach of Daiquiri. It became a favorite drink of Hemingway, who lived in Cuba, although the writer, who suffered from diabetes, made the cocktail without sugar, using grapefruit juice. However, this isn't the only change to the traditional Daiquiri recipe. The cocktail pairs so well with many other ingredients that various juices, liqueurs, and fruits have come to be added.
Strawberry Daiquiri is especially popular in the summer. Give it a citrusy freshness with orange syrup and juice. You can skip the rum in this frozen cocktail, making it a refreshing and delicious sorbet for dessert.

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Using a vegetable peeler, remove the zest from the orange, avoiding the white part (albedo).
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the sugar and 1/4 cup water. Add the zest. Bring the syrup to a boil and remove from heat. Cool to room temperature.
- Set aside 4 strawberries for garnish, and peel and chop the remaining strawberries. Place the chopped strawberries in a blender, pour in the orange juice, and fill with ice.
- Add the cooled orange syrup and blend until smooth. Add rum, if desired, and stir. Pour the strawberry-snow mixture into glasses and garnish with strawberries.
