Grilled (or pan-fried) red onions with a slightly sweet flavor make the perfect addition to burgers and sandwiches, a side dish for meat, or a simple yet delicious appetizer. Slice the onions into thick slices, drizzle with vegetable oil, and grill like a steak on both sides. For added flavor, sprinkle with steak seasoning or salt and black pepper.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 1 large red onion
  • Light vegetable oil, such as peanut, canola, or sunflower oil, for drizzling over the onions
  • Steak seasoning or coarse salt and black pepper

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Cut a thin slice from the side of a whole, unpeeled onion. Place it flat on a work surface. Slice the onion into 4 1-inch-thick slices. Remove the outer ring of skin from each slice.
