A heavy cast iron skillet is ideal for making pizza with a crispy crust. For the toppings, prepare your choice of Italian sausage, dry mozzarella to keep the dough from getting soggy, marinara sauce (or puree canned tomatoes), Parmesan, and spices. Place the ingredients on the dough in the exact order specified by the recipe, and your pizza will turn out perfect, with a perfectly baked crust and golden, crispy edges.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 4 tbsp. l. olive oil
  • 450 g sweet or hot Italian sausage, thinly sliced ​​(about 8 sausages)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 450 g fresh pizza dough, room temperature
  • 280 g dry whole milk mozzarella, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp of any marinara sauce or 1.5 cups of mashed and strained San Marzano tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp. l. dried oregano
  • 0.5 tbsp. grated parmesan

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat oven to 200°C. Heat a skillet over medium heat with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Fry the sausages until browned on all sides, 8-10 minutes.
  2. Grease the inside of a 12-inch cast iron skillet. Place the pizza dough in the center and spread it evenly toward the bottom and up 1.5 inches (4 cm) of the sides.

  3. The order of the layers is crucial for a crispy pizza crust. Start with the sausage. Evenly arrange the sausage slices on the crust, followed by the mozzarella and marinara sauce. Top with garlic and oregano. Finally, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and drizzle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  4. Place the pizza pan on the bottom rack of the oven and bake until the edges are golden and crispy, 30-35 minutes. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
