Time: 55 min.

Fried bread is a traditional Native American dish and is common among Native Americans. It's made into flat cakes using flour, water, a pinch of salt, and baking powder. Before forming the dough into flat cakes, let it rest in the refrigerator for about an hour to make it easier to work with. Each flat cake is deep-fried and served with a variety of toppings, most commonly refried beans or fried ground meat with sauce. It's also delicious with sweet toppings like honey, syrup, or jam.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 3 cups premium flour
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Place the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Whisk well, then add warm water and mix until a dough begins to form. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead. Do not overmix. Then place the dough in the bowl and refrigerate for 0.5-1 hour.
  2. Heat oil in a frying pan or saucepan to 175°C. Lightly flour the work surface and roll the dough into baseball-sized circles. Use a knife to cut a hole in the center (this will help the dough stay flat when frying). Place in the oil and fry until golden brown. Flip and fry the other side until golden brown. The flatbread will be ready in about 3 minutes, depending on the oil temperature and the thickness of the dough.

  3. Serve the finished tortillas with your favorite toppings, or top them with chili and cheese, then lettuce leaves and tomatoes, onions, green chilies, and you've got an Indian taco.
