Load up your slow cooker in the morning, and when you get home from work, you'll be rewarded with a delicious Asian-inspired dinner: sweet and spicy, sticky chicken drumsticks in a sauce that thickens and richens as the chicken cooks. Top the drumsticks with green onions and serve with steamed rice, which will soak up even more of the delicious sauce.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons lightly salted soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 8 chicken drumsticks (about 1 kg), with skin
  • 2 tsp Chinese 5-spice seasoning
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • Steamed white rice (for serving)

We recommend

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine hoisin, honey, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic, and chili flakes. Rub the drumsticks on all sides with Chinese five-spice seasoning, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
  2. Place the chicken in a 6-quart slow cooker and pour the sauce over it, then stir to coat the drumsticks. Cook over low heat until the chicken is very tender when pierced with a knife and the sauce has thickened slightly, about 4 hours. Transfer the drumsticks and sauce to a bowl, sprinkle with green onions, and serve with rice.
