This delicious Italian dessert of ice cream and fresh strawberries will be your new summer hit. A light lemon-wine sauce made with Marsala gives it a unique flavor. Pour it over ice cream and strawberries, sprinkle with crushed amaretti cookies, and enjoy. Leftover sauce can be refrigerated.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 1.5 cups sweet Marsala
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Zest and juice of 1 large lemon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 450 g strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 16 amaretti or 4 long biscotti (10 cm), finely chopped
  • For serving: 2 cups vanilla gelato or ice cream

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Lemon Marsala Sauce:

    In a small saucepan, combine the wine, sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice and heat over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves. Simmer until the liquid has reduced by half, about 25 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the nutmeg. Let the sauce cool for 30 minutes. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving (can be made up to 3 days in advance).
  2. Spoon the ice cream into 4 bowls and top with strawberries. Drizzle with the sauce and sprinkle with crushed cookies.
