Brown Betty (also known as Mulatto Betty) is a traditional American dessert featuring baked apples with a delicious breadcrumb crust. It's best to use homemade breadcrumbs, which have been dried in the oven, to create a crispier and more textured crust. Mix them with butter, sprinkle them over the apples in baking pans, and bake. Serve this fragrant dessert warm, with a scoop of ice cream, or simply with tea.
