This dessert is a variation on the popular American fruit pastry, Brown Betty, where fruit is sprinkled with sweetened bread crumbs and baked until soft. Instead of simple sugar, this recipe uses natural maple syrup. This not only makes the dessert healthier but also adds a richer flavor. Sprinkle sliced ​​peaches with a little bread crumbs, raisins, and nuts mixed with butter, and bake in the oven. Unlike traditional Brown Betty, this dessert contains more fruit and less bread, and therefore fewer calories.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 4 ripe peaches, halved, pitted and cut into 4 slices each
  • 55 g butter, melted
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 slices bread with raisins and walnuts
  • A pinch of coarse salt

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat oven to 175°C.
  2. In a 2-quart oval baking dish, combine the peaches, 2 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, and vanilla. Stir with a spatula to combine the ingredients, then arrange the peaches cut-side up.

  3. Place the bread and salt in the bowl of a food processor. Process until finely chopped (but not crumbly, otherwise it will stick together). Transfer to a bowl and combine with the remaining 2 tablespoons (30 g) butter and 2 tablespoons maple syrup. Sprinkle the bread mixture evenly over the peaches.
  4. Bake until peaches are very tender and bread crumbs are golden brown, 30 to 35 minutes.
