How to Make Coconut Curry Popcorn

Curry-flavored popcorn isn't just another snack loaded with artificial flavors and enhancers, but a unique snack made with only natural ingredients. The amazing flavor and aroma of Indian curry is enhanced by savory spices and sweet coconut flakes. Toast the spices in butter and drizzle the mixture over the popcorn, then sprinkle with toasted coconut. The turmeric in the butter will also give your popcorn a delicious yellow hue. This snack will be irresistible.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 1 cup sweet coconut flakes
  • 110 g butter, diced
  • 0.5 tsp brown mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/4 tsp hot smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup popcorn

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat oven to 175°C.

    Spread the coconut flakes on a rimmed baking sheet and bake, stirring halfway through, until golden brown, about 8 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  2. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small saucepan and add the mustard seeds, coriander, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, ginger, and onion powder. Cook until the butter is fragrant and the spices are toasted, about 1 minute. Turn off the heat.

  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium heat until shimmering. Add the corn kernels and stir to coat evenly, then cover the pan with a lid. Cook, shaking the pan occasionally, until the popping noise stops, about 5 minutes.
  4. Place the popcorn in a large bowl, drizzle with the spiced butter, and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of salt. Add the toasted coconut and stir to evenly distribute the ingredients. Serve the popcorn warm.
