To make this appetizer, you don't need to roll out dough or buy pre-made tartlets. They're easy to make with white bread! Trim the crusts from slices of bread, then roll out the crumb into a thin layer. To shape it into tartlets, you'll need a metal muffin pan. Place the flattened bread slices into the muffin cups, bake, and fill them with cream cheese, mozzarella, plum tomatoes, and fresh basil—the essential ingredients of Italian Caprese. This easy-to-make appetizer will be a hit at your next party.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 8 slices of white bread
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3 tbsp cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 plum tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 110 g fresh mozzarella (a ball about 5 cm in size), thinly sliced
  • Balsamic vinegar to drizzle
  • 8 fresh basil leaves
  • Special equipment: metal muffin pan

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat oven to 190°C.
  2. Trim the crusts from the bread and, using a large spoon or rolling pin, gently flatten the slices until they are thin. Brush both sides of the bread with olive oil. Press them into the cavities of a muffin tin to form tartlets. Set aside.

  3. In a small bowl, mix together the cream cheese, garlic powder, dried basil, salt, and black pepper with a fork until smooth. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the cheese mixture into the bottom of each muffin cup. Bake the tartlets until golden brown, 12-13 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, generously salt the tomato slices. Once the tartlets are golden brown, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack. Place a slice of mozzarella on top of the cream cheese, then 1-2 slices of tomato. Season with salt and pepper to taste and drizzle with olive oil. balsamic sauce; sprinkle with thinly sliced ​​basil.
