This pasta has the same flavor as a traditional Italian caprese salad with mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil, but it's more filling. A big bonus: it's made in one pot! Saves time and minimizes mess. Simply combine all the main ingredients with the spaghetti in a saucepan, cover with water, and cook the pasta and sauce together until tender. Once the pasta is cooked, sprinkle it with grated cheese, fresh basil, and salt to taste. Add shaved Parmesan cheese if desired, and enjoy.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 3 cups chopped tomatoes
  • 450 g whole grain spaghetti
  • 4 tbsp of water
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup tightly packed fresh basil leaves, plus extra torn leaves for serving
  • 1 tbsp. grated mozzarella
  • Shredded Parmesan cheese, optional

We recommend

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Combine the tomatoes, spaghetti, water, garlic, red pepper flakes, oregano, and olive oil in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10-12 minutes, until the pasta is al dente.
  2. Once the pasta is cooked, remove from heat and add basil, mozzarella, salt, and black pepper to taste. Serve with Parmesan cheese, if using.
