"I was inspired to make this hibiscus syrup cocktail by Uncle Nearest Whiskey, a brand owned by African-Americans inspired by Nathan Green, a former African slave and master distiller who trained Jack Daniel himself," says recipe author Taneka Reeves. "I named the drink 'Red Star' not only because of the color, but also because the star symbolizes the liberation of people from slavery."
