Blueberries are an unexpected ingredient for barbecue sauce, but the results will surprise you. The sauce is slightly sweet, and this berry sweetness gives way to a slight tang and tartness. It's perfect with grilled pork, chicken, beef, and fish. Add blueberry sauce to burgers or enjoy it on its own—it's delicious!



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 2 cups blueberries
  • 3 tablespoons sambal-olek paste
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons non-alcoholic apple cider
  • 1 plum tomato, cut into pieces (seeds removed)

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. In a saucepan, combine the blueberries, sambal, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider, and tomatoes. Cook over medium heat, mashing the berries and tomatoes, until the liquid begins to thicken, about 10 minutes.
  2. Simmer the sauce at a low simmer, reducing the heat further if desired. Taste and add salt if necessary.
