French dressing is also called vinaigrette, or vinaigrette dressing, from the French word vinaigre, meaning vinegar. The types of vegetable oil and vinegar used may vary in different recipes. Various flavorings, such as garlic, herbs, berries, and cheese, are also added. But the basic ingredients of the classic recipe remain the same: vinegar and oil in a 1:3 ratio.
French dressing is perfect for vegetable salads and fish dishes. Always use freshly prepared.
