In some European countries, cake is called bread. This bread-pudding is prepared for breakfast or any snack, and it's also quite quick to prepare. Its yeast-free base allows the bread to remain moist and crumbly, creating an indescribable flavor when eaten, for example, with lentil soup. This dessert bread with dates and nuts has a special charm; it can be eaten with ricotta or sweetened cream cheese for a delicious, quick pastry. It also freezes well and remains just as soft and delicious when defrosted.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • 250 g chopped dates
  • 2 tbsp (30 g) butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 and 1/4 cups premium flour (300 g)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat oven to 175°C. Grease a 22x12x7 cm loaf pan.
  2. Place the chopped dates in a medium bowl, pour boiling water over them, and add the butter (you'll need the liquid). Using a mixer, beat the sugar and egg until light and fluffy.

    In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to the beaten mixture, alternating with the dates and water. Stir in the chopped walnuts.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.

    Innings.

    Orange cream cheese: In a bowl, beat 120g of softened cream cheese with 1.5 tsp of finely grated orange zest, 3 tbsp of powdered sugar and a few drops of vanilla.
