This quick and delicious bread is baked without yeast, yet rises beautifully with baking powder and baking soda, giving it a stunning texture and flavor. The beer mixed into the dough adds a rich flavor, while smoked cheese, a touch of cayenne pepper, and thyme leaves add a delicious piquancy and aroma. All ingredients are quickly mixed into a smooth dough. Even a novice can handle this bread. Serve it with any meal or use it to make delicious sandwiches.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil + extra to grease the pan
  • 3.5 cups flour + extra for dusting the pan
  • 2 tablespoons ground mustard seeds
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 0.33 l of light beer
  • 1 tbsp. grated smoked gouda
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme leaves

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Preheat oven to 175°C. Grease and flour a bread pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, mustard, salt, baking soda, and cayenne pepper.

  3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg with vegetable oil and beer.
  4. Add the liquid mixture to the flour mixture. Stir in the grated cheese and thyme. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 45 minutes.
  5. Cool the bread on a wire rack.
