The best way to enjoy fresh artichokes is to steam them. Place half a lemon, parsley sprigs, and garlic cloves in boiling water under the trimmed and cleaned artichokes to create a fragrant steam. When the artichokes are tender, serve with melted butter for dipping.

Place a steamer basket over simmering water with half a lemon, a few sprigs of parsley, and 2 crushed garlic cloves. Trim 4 large artichokes, discarding the stems. Place them evenly in the basket. Cover and simmer over medium heat, adding more water as needed, until tender, about 45 minutes. Serve the artichokes with melted butter for dipping.
