Bake delicious, soft muffins filled with chocolate chips with your kids, perfect for taking to school as a snack or sharing with friends. The addition of rolled oats, natural applesauce, and whole-wheat flour adds healthy fiber without sacrificing flavor. Younger kids can help you mix the dry ingredients and knead the chocolate chips into the batter, while school-age children can measure the ingredients and spoon the batter into a pan. Bake the muffins in one large layer and then cut them into convenient bars.

Recipes with similar ingredients: whole grain flour, rolled oats, applesauce (puree), semi-sweet chocolate, chocolate chips (granules), eggs
Cooking the dish according to the recipe:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9-inch square baking pan with foil, allowing it to overhang by 2 inches on both sides. Lightly spray the foil with cooking spray; set aside.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, oats, baking soda, and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, combine the butter, egg, brown sugar, and applesauce. Add the flour mixture to the wet mixture and knead into a dough. Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake until lightly browned around the edges and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 25-30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes.
- Pull the foil overhangs to lift the cake out of the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack. Invert the cake onto a plate and remove the foil. Invert the cake onto a cutting board, cut into 12 pieces, and serve.
