Combine cucumber, ripe melon, and cherries with chili pepper, allspice, green onions, and fresh ginger for a vibrant summer salad infused with the rich flavors and aromas of Jamaican cuisine. This fruit salad makes a wonderful accompaniment to grilled meat or chicken.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • A small cantaloupe melon, seeded and peeled
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 cup pitted cherries
  • 1 teaspoon crushed Scotch Bonnet pepper

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. In a large bowl, combine 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon each apple cider vinegar, minced ginger root, minced thyme root, 1 teaspoon crushed Scotch bonnet pepper, 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice, and 2 finely chopped green onions and garlic cloves.
  2. Add one seeded and peeled cucumber, one small cantaloupe, and 1 cup halved, pitted cherries; stir. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
