Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbsp. tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 3 tbsp. l. dark brown sugar

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring, for 6-7 minutes, until golden brown. Add tomato sauce, 1 cup water, vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, mustard, garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the onions are soft, about 15 minutes. Stir in the liquid smoke and strain the sauce through a sieve.
