The best thing about this hot drink from Alton Brown is that it's made entirely in a percolator. This means you can pour yourself a cup of mulled wine with wine and orange zest straight from the teapot. Make a batch of this drink and let your guests help themselves, and they can have as many servings as they want.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 2 bottles (750 ml) of red wine
  • 6 allspice berries
  • 1 tbsp. black peppercorns
  • 2 star anise
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 piece (2.5 cm) fresh ginger, sliced
  • 3 long strips of orange zest
  • 3 long strips of lemon zest
  • 3/4 cup honey

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Place allspice berries, black peppercorns, and star peppers into the filter of a geyser coffee maker. star anise, cinnamon sticks, ginger, and citrus zest. Pour in the wine and honey. Attach the strainer, close, and let steep for 1-2 hours. Serve hot.
