A popular savory pastry in the US, it's like a cross between a cookie and a bun, dense and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. These cookies can be served in place of bread with any meal or taken as a snack to work, school, or on a walk. And to make them, you'll need just a few ingredients: ground sausage, grated cheese, butter, sour cream, and self-raising flour. Fry the ground sausage first and knead it into a dough. As the cookies bake, the cheese inside will melt and blend with the crumb. The result is a delicious and filling pastry.

The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 250 g raw sausages with sage, remove the shell
  • 220 g softened butter
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups self-raising flour
  • 150 g grated sharp cheddar

We recommend

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium skillet over medium heat, fry the sausage, breaking it up into small pieces, until browned. Then cool completely on the counter or in the freezer.

  3. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the butter and sour cream. Stir in the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until smooth. Add the browned ground beef and cheddar and mix thoroughly.
  4. Scoop the dough out with a spoon and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until the cookies are golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes.

    Note

If you have trouble finding self-rising flour, you can substitute it with a mixture of 2 cups flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. If your self-rising flour contains butter, omit the butter from the recipe.
