Green edamame soybeans are a quick and easy snack, high in protein, perfect with a beer or while watching a movie. A great, healthy alternative to popcorn and chips! This recipe works with fresh or frozen beans. The edamame are generously salted and cooked in the pods for a few minutes. Pop the beans straight into your mouth and enjoy.
We recommend
Recipe:
- 220 g young green soybeans (about 4 cups pods), fresh or frozen
Separate the edamame pods from their stems and place them in a large bowl. Sprinkle generously with 2 tablespoons of salt, toss thoroughly, and let sit for 15 minutes. Bring a large saucepan of well-salted water to a boil, add the beans, and simmer over high heat for 5-6 minutes (or less if you prefer a firmer texture). Do not cover the pan, or the beans will lose their bright green color. When the edamame are done, drain and serve hot, drizzled with soy sauce and toasted sesame seeds. To eat as an appetizer, serve the beans in baskets or bowls. Squeeze the edamame pods with your fingers, squeeze the beans into your mouth, and discard the edamame pods.
