Agua fresca is a popular Central American drink that's rich in vitamins and a great thirst quencher. It's essentially a cocktail of water and fresh fruit. Giada de Laurentiis suggests trying this refreshing strawberry-basil-flavored drink. Serve over ice.



The recipes use measuring containers with the following volumes:
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:


  • 450 g of hulled strawberries
  • 0.5 cups of sugar
  • 4 large basil leaves + sprigs for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Cooking the dish according to the recipe:


  1. Place strawberries, sugar, basil leaves and lemon juice in a blender and blend on high speed for 1 minute.
  2. Add 2 cups of cold water and beat for another 1 minute. Pour the mixture into a large pitcher and add another 2 cups of cold water. Serve over ice.
